Our Why Behind Butterfield Farms

We didn’t start Butterfield Farms to chase trends.
We started because food should heal — not harm — and the land deserves better stewardship.

  • Pasture-Raised

  • Grass-Finished

  • Humane Handling

  • Regenerative Grazing

  • South Poll Cattle

Our South Poll cattle are raised on pasture where they thrive naturally, supporting regenerative practices that build healthy soil and produce nutrient-dense, grass-finished beef.

  • Idaho Pasture Pigs

Our pasture-raised pork comes from pigs raised outdoors on open pasture, with room to root, roam, and live naturally—because healthy animals produce better food.

  • A2A2 Jersey Cows

Our A2A2 Jersey cows are raised on pasture and selected for gentle temperaments and quality milk genetics, making them ideal family milk cows.

From Pasture To Plate

Step 1

Rotational Grazing

Our cattle are moved regularly across pasture, allowing grasses time to rest and regrow. This mimics natural grazing patterns, improves soil health, and creates resilient pasture that supports both the land and the animals. Healthy soil grows nutrient-dense forage, which directly impacts the quality of the beef.

Step 2

Animal Welfare

Low-stress handling and attentive care are central to how we raise our animals. Cattle are allowed to live naturally on pasture with room to roam, express normal behaviors, and remain part of the herd. Calm animals produce better outcomes for both their well-being and the food they provide.

Step 3

Processing & Packaging

While processing does not take place on our farm, we work closely with trusted processors who share our values for humane handling and ethical practices. We help guide you through selecting a processor that aligns with our standards and ensures care is maintained every step of the way. Transparency and respect remain priorities beyond the pasture.

Step 4

Your Freezer

From there, your beef is carefully prepared, packaged, and ready for your freezer. You’ll receive food you can feel confident serving—raised with intention from pasture to plate. Knowing where your meat comes from brings peace of mind to every meal.

Frequently asked questions

Honest answers to the most common questions about our farming practices, animal care, and how to buy from Butterfield Farms.

Our South Poll cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, raised on pasture using rotational grazing. They are never grain-finished.

Our Idaho Pasture pigs are pasture-raised and allowed to forage naturally, while also receiving a certified organic, soy-free feed. This feed is fermented for two days in A2/A2 milk produced by our own Jersey cows, supporting digestion and overall animal health.

Each species is fed in a way that aligns with its natural needs, ensuring healthy animals, thoughtful stewardship, and high-quality food.

No. We never use added hormones or growth promotants.

Antibiotics are only used if an animal’s health or life depends on it. If medical treatment is ever required, Butterfield Farms provides full transparency, including clear communication about what was used, why it was necessary, and how much time passed between treatment and when meat is made available.

Our commitment is honest answers, responsible animal care, and food you can feel confident feeding your family.

No. At this time, we offer local pickup and local delivery only.

Keeping our distribution local allows us to maintain quality, reduce handling stress, and ensure meat is delivered with the same care and transparency we bring to raising our animals.

When you purchase bulk meat, you reserve a portion of an animal, choose your cut preferences with the processor, and receive professionally packaged, freezer-ready meat. We guide you through every step of the process.
